Sidaction : Entr’aides, au quotidien auprès des publics exposés au VIH

Tout le week-end, des collectes de dons sont organisées par les associations, en faveur de la lutte contre le Sida. Depuis plus de trente ans, Entr’aides accompagne dans l’Île-de-Cayenne des personnes vivant avec le VIH, mène des actions de prévention et de sensibilisation auprès des travailleuses du sexe, dans les quartiers prioritaires et aussi auprès des publics scolaires.

Hier matin, en dépit des difficultés de circulation dans l’Île-de-Cayenne, en lien avec les manifestations contre la réforme des retraites, Mayelin Estevez et Elinda Ladeo avaient réussi à rejoindre le marché de Rémire-Montjoly, pour le démarrage du Sidaction. Jusqu’à dimanche, l’association Entr’aides, où elle travaille, multipliera les animations et les collectes de dons en faveur de la lutte contre le VIH. D’autres associations participent, comme Ader, l’Arbre fromager… (lire le programme ci-dessous). Pour Entr’aides, le point d’orgue sera la course organisée dimanche matin, à Matoury. La recette des inscriptions sera reversée au Sidaction.

Le reste de l’année, Entr’aides mène des actions de prévention, des maraudes, d’accompagnement des personnes vivant avec le VIH ou avec l’hépatite B, propose la Prep (prophylaxie pré-exposition), du lait maternel à des femmes venant d’accoucher et orientées par l’hôpital de jour (HDJ), des sorties de convivialité, à destination de différents publics.

Le programme de prévention amène l’association dans les quartiers prioritaires de l’Île-de-Cayenne, notamment auprès des travailleuses du sexe (TDS). Des permanences sont assurées au Village chinois, à Cayenne. Lors des maraudes dans ces quartiers, les personnels de l’association proposent des pochettes de préservatifs et de gel, ainsi que des préservatifs féminins, à la demande. « Nous installons notre stand et, généralement, les gens approchent. Dans certains quartiers comme à proximité du Village chinois, nous sommes connus. Nous suivons certaines personnes depuis parfois vingt ans », témoigne Elinda Ladeo, médiatrice du programme TDS.

« Dans d’autres quartiers comme Mont-Lucas, les jeunes viennent parce qu’on distribue des préservatifs, constate Mayelin Estevez, responsable du programme de prévention. On peut alors commencer à discuter avec eux. »

Des tests rapides d’orientation diagnostique (Trod) sont régulièrement proposés. Il y a quelques jours, l’association en a réalisé une vingtaine dans un secteur squatté, à proximité du Village chinois. Une femme, toxicomane, était positive. « Dans ces cas-là, on propose de les accompagner pour une confirmation. Si on peut, on y va tout de suite, explique Mayelin Estevez. Mais certaines refusent. On ne peut pas obliger les personnes à se soigner. »

« Les connaissances s’améliorent »

Elinda Ladeo, qui a rejoint Entr’aides en 2005, a vu les choses évoluer autour du Sida. « A l’époque, nous ne faisions que de l’accompagnement social pour les personnes vivant avec le VIH. Si on venait nous voir, ça voulait dire qu’on avait le Sida. Donc les personnes se cachaient. Ensuite, nous avons commencé le travail de prévention, la réduction des risques, les interventions dans les écoles. A partir de ce moment-là, tout le monde était susceptible de venir nous rencontrer. Rentrer chez nous ne signifie plus qu’on a le Sida. C’est moins stigmatisant. »

La médiatrice du programme TDS constate aussi du changement chez les travailleuses du sexe. « En 2005, on faisait du porte à porte pour informer les filles. Leurs connaissances sur le Sida étaient encore très limitées. Certaines pensaient qu’on l’attrapait avec les moustiques, en buvant dans le même verre qu’une personne malade. Ce n’est plus le cas. Les filles qui travaillent dans la rue sont bien informées. Elles savent comment ça se transmet, connaissent la Prep. Elles savent qu’en cas d’accident, elles doivent aller à l’hôpital pour un traitement post-exposition. Elles se connaissent aussi presque toutes entre elles. Quand une nouvelle arrive, elles l’orientent facilement vers nous, en lui expliquant ce que nous faisons. » Un travail de prévention et d’information qui va se poursuivre auprès du grand public, tout ce week-end !

Throughout the weekend, collections of donations are organized by associations, in favor of the fight against AIDS. For more than thirty years, Entr'aides has supported in Ile-de-Cayenne of people living with HIV, carries out prevention and awareness-raising actions with sex workers, in priority neighborhoods and also with schoolchildren.

Yesterday morning, despite traffic difficulties in the Île-de-Cayenne, in connection with the demonstrations against the pension reform, Mayelin Estevez and Elinda Ladeo had managed to join the Rémire-Montjoly market, for the start-up of Sidaction. Until Sunday, the association Entr’aides, where she works, will multiply the animations and the collections of donations in favor of the fight against HIV. Other associations participate, such as Ader, the cheese tree… (read the program below). For Entr’aides, the highlight will be the race organized on Sunday morning, in Matoury. Proceeds from registrations will be donated to Sidaction.

The rest of the year, Entr'aides carries out prevention actions, marauding, support for people living with HIV or hepatitis B, offers Prep (pre-exposure prophylaxis), breast milk to women who have just given birth and are referred by the day hospital (HDJ), outings of conviviality, intended for different audiences.

The prevention program takes the association to priority neighborhoods on the Île-de-Cayenne, particularly with sex workers (TDS). Hotlines are provided at the Chinese Village in Cayenne. During patrols in these neighborhoods, the staff of the association offer condom and gel pouches, as well as female condoms, on request. “We set up our booth and usually people approach. In certain neighborhoods such as near the Chinese Village, we are known. We have been following some people for sometimes twenty years”, testifies Elinda Ladeo, mediator of the TDS program.

" In other neighborhoods like Mont-Lucas, young people come because we distribute condoms, notes Mayelin Estevez, head of the prevention program. We can then start chatting with them. »

Rapid diagnostic orientation tests (Trod) are regularly offered. A few days ago, the association carried out about twenty in a squatted area, near the Chinese Village. A woman, drug addict, was positive. “In these cases, we offer to accompany them for confirmation. If we can, we'll go right away, explains Mayelin Estevez. But some refuse. We cannot force people to take care of themselves.

“Knowledge improves”

Elinda Ladeo, who joined Entr’aides in 2005, saw things evolve around AIDS. “At the time, we were only doing social support for people living with HIV. If they came to see us, that meant we had AIDS. So people were hiding. Then we started prevention work, risk reduction, interventions in schools. From that moment, everyone was likely to come and meet us. Going home no longer means you have AIDS. It's less stigmatizing. ”

The TDS program mediator also sees change among sex workers. “In 2005, we went door to door to inform the girls. Their knowledge of AIDS was still very limited. Some thought it was caught with mosquitoes, drinking from the same glass as a sick person. This is no longer the case. The girls who work on the streets are well informed. They know how it is transmitted, know the Prep. They know that in case of an accident, they have to go to the hospital for post-exposure treatment. They also almost all know each other. When news arrives, they easily direct them to us, explaining to them what we are doing. » Prevention and information work that will continue with the general public, all this weekend!
