Nouvelle session pour le suivi des Amphibiens

Réalisés tous les deux ans en début d’année, deux suivis sur les amphibiens de la réserve ont été programmés ces dernières semaines autour des sentiers de la réserve. Deux protocoles distincts sont entrepris depuis maintenant plusieurs années.

Le premier permet l’étude démographique des Dendrobates à tapirer (Dendrobates tinctorius) de la zone sur trois parcelles parcourues deux fois par jours en mode « battue », pendant 4 jours. L’étude s’appuie sur le principe de Capture Marquage Recapture (CMR) qui permet à terme d’estimer les tailles des populations de dendrobates présentes sur chacune des parcelles. Le second protocole s’intéresse aux espèces communes de dendrobatidés, aromobatidés et bufonidés. Il est réalisé le long du linéaire du sentier botanique depuis près de 10 ans. Les contacts avec une des espèces concernées sont aussi bien visuels qu’auditifs. Dans ce cas-là, 14 passages sont réalisés (7 le matin et 7 l’après-midi).

Les résultats de ces suivis en 2023 sont mitigés. Si l’étude CMR des dendrobates a été bonne avec de nombreux contacts, celle du suivi linéaire s’est révélée assez pauvre, hormis pour les Allobates femoralis toujours très présents sur le site. Au début de l’étude, 7 espèces d’amphibiens étaient recensées mais depuis quelques années, deux d’entre elles ont déjà disparu (Anomaloglossus baeobatrachus et Atelopus flavescens). Ce constat est toujours d’actualité en 2023 auquel s’ajoute une chute dans les contacts avec les deux petits crapauds forestiers : Rhinella margaritifera et Rhinella castaneotica. Les dendrobates aussi ont été peu nombreux sur le sentier.

L’étude reprendra en 2025 et permettra de voir si ce déclin se confirme. Avec aujourd’hui plusieurs années de recul, nous allons aussi commencer à réaliser des analyses plus en profondeur pour évaluer les tendances plus précisément.

Carried out every two years at the beginning of the year, two monitoring of the reserve's amphibians have been scheduled in recent weeks around the reserve's trails. Two separate protocols are undertaken for several years now.

The first allows the demographic study of Dendrobates at tapir (Dendrobates tinctorius) in the area on three plots covered twice a day in "threshing" mode, for 4 days. The study is based on the principle of Capture Marking Recapture (CMR) which ultimately makes it possible to estimate the sizes of the populations of dendrobates present on each of the plots. The second protocol focuses on common species of dendrobatids, aromobatids and bufonids. It has been carried out along the linear botanical path for nearly 10 years. Contacts with one of the species concerned are both visual and auditory. In this case, 14 passes are made (7 in the morning and 7 in the afternoon).

The results of these follow-ups in 2023 are mixed. If the CMR study of the dendrobates was good with many contacts, that of the linear monitoring proved to be quite poor, except for the Allobates femoralis still very present on the site. At the beginning of the study, 7 species of amphibians were recorded but in recent years, two of them have already disappeared (Anomaloglossus baeobatrachus and Atelopus flavescens ). This observation is still valid in 2023, to which is added a drop in contacts with the two small forest toads: Rhinella margaritifera and Rhinella castaneotica . The dendrobates were also few on the trail.

The study will resume in 2025 and will see if this decline is confirmed. With several years of hindsight now, we will also begin to carry out more in-depth analyzes to assess trends more precisely.
