Inauguration du Mémorial du Mont Cépérou

La 11ème édition des Journées des Peuples Autochtones se veut un hommage au chef amérindien Sépélou. C’est à cette occasion qu’un mémorial lui est dédié et sera inauguré au cœur du site remarquable de la ville de Cayenne. Le choix de ce site est hautement symbolique dans la mémoire amérindienne, il rappelle jadis, que les peuples amérindiens ont occupé ce territoire avant l’arrivée des Européens.

Le « Mémorial du Mont Cépérou », consiste en l’installation de 8 panneaux ayant vocation à constituer un parcours historique, dont l’objectif est de donner aux visiteurs les éléments d’information sur l’occupation de l’île de Cayenne par les Amérindiens et les guerres qu’ils livrèrent aux colons européens.

Lors de cette inauguration, le public est invité nombreux à découvrir ou redécouvrir la richesse des cultures autochtones à travers un village artisanal qui sera installé sur la place Léopold Héder à Cayenne, le vendredi 12 août 2022.

The 11th edition of the Days of Indigenous Peoples is a tribute to the Amerindian leader Sépélou. It is on this occasion that a memorial is dedicated to him and will be inaugurated in the heart of the remarkable site of the city of Cayenne. The choice of this site is highly symbolic in the Amerindian memory, it reminds us that the Amerindian peoples occupied this territory before the arrival of the Europeans.

The "Mont Cépérou Memorial" consists of the installation of 8 panels intended to constitute a historical route, the objective of which is to provide visitors with information on the occupation of the island of Cayenne by the Native Americans and the wars they fought against European settlers.

During this inauguration, the public is invited in large numbers to discover or rediscover the richness of indigenous cultures through a craft village which will be installed on Place Léopold Héder in Cayenne, on Friday August 12, 2022.
