Inauguration du jardin de kaz de la GADEPAM

Ce jardin implanté dans la cour de la Maison de l’artisanat traditionnel et des produits naturels de Guyane a été créé grâce au soutien financier de la Fondation UBIPHARM et de la Fondation Nature & Découvertes. Son inauguration officielle aura lieu le samedi 3 juillet, à partir de 12h, pour les financeurs du projet et la presse.

Ce sera également l’occasion pour l’association de remettre officiellement à la fondation UBIPHARM les ouvrages sur les « pharmacopées des Outre-mer », ouvrage réalisé par les éditions GADEPAM, à partir des actes du colloque 9e CIPAM grâce, entre autres, à un financement de la fondation UBIPHARM. L’inauguration sera suivie d’un pot de l’amitié offert par l’association.

Un projet envisagé depuis la création de l’association
Depuis sa création en 2002, l’association GADEPAM a pour projet la création d’un jardin ethnobotanique à portée pédagogique. Le but de ce jardin est de permettre la découverte des plantes artisanales et médicinales utilisées dans les différentes sociétés traditionnelles de Guyane, tout en valorisant les savoirs traditionnels liés à ces plantes.

La valorisation des plantes par la pédagogie
Avec la création de ce jardin, l’association GADEPAM a pour ambition de présenter les principales plantes de la biodiversité guyanaise utilisées dans l’artisanat traditionnel et la médecine traditionnelle, et notamment quelques plantes médicinales inscrites à la pharmacopée. Il est illustré par des panneaux de présentation réalisés par Marie Fleury, ethnobotaniste et directrice de l’antenne locale du Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle. La construction d’un carbet traditionnel est venue compléter l’aménagement de ce petit espace de verdure. Entouré par des plantes utiles à l’homme, ce carbet permet d’abriter les visiteurs de la pluie et du soleil, tout en s’inscrivant dans les traditions guyanaises des jardins de kaz.

Ce jardin devrait ouvrir au public dès la rentrée prochaine (si les conditions sanitaires le permettent) avec des visites guidées, sur rendez-vous, de groupes scolaires et autres.

Ainsi, grâce à cet espace, l’association GADEPAM jouera pleinement son rôle de passerelle entre les traditions guyanaises, la recherche, et la société civile.

This garden, located in the courtyard of the House of Traditional Crafts and Natural Products of French Guiana, was created with the financial support of the UBIPHARM Foundation and the Nature & Discoveries Foundation. Its official inauguration will take place on Saturday July 3, from 12 noon, for the funders of the project and the press.

It will also be an opportunity for the association to officially hand over to the UBIPHARM foundation the works on the “pharmacopoeias of overseas territories”, a work produced by GADEPAM editions, based on the proceedings of the 9th CIPAM conference thanks, among others, to funding from the UBIPHARM foundation. The inauguration will be followed by a drink of friendship offered by the association.

A project considered since the creation of the association
Since its creation in 2002, the GADEPAM association has had the project of creating an ethnobotanical garden with educational scope. The purpose of this garden is to allow the discovery of artisanal and medicinal plants used in the various traditional societies of French Guiana, while promoting the traditional knowledge linked to these plants.

The promotion of plants through education
With the creation of this garden, the GADEPAM association aims to present the main plants of Guianese biodiversity used in traditional crafts and traditional medicine, and in particular some medicinal plants listed in the pharmacopoeia. It is illustrated by presentation panels produced by Marie Fleury, ethnobotanist and director of the local branch of the National Museum of Natural History. The construction of a traditional hut completed the development of this small green space. Surrounded by plants that are useful to humans, this hut shelters visitors from the rain and the sun, while remaining part of the Guianese traditions of the kaz gardens.

This garden should open to the public from the next school year (if sanitary conditions allow it) with guided tours, by appointment, for school groups and others.

Thus, thanks to this space, the GADEPAM association will fully play its role as a bridge between Guianese traditions, research, and civil society.
