Serge Patient, general councilor of the canton of Kourou from 1973 to 1998 and deputy mayor of Kourou until 1995, died at the age of 86.
Born March 24, 1934 in Cayenne, Serge Patient was a Guianese writer and politician. From 1974 to January 28, 1980, he chaired the regional council of French Guiana. During his professional career, he taught Spanish at the Lycée Félix-Éboué in Cayenne from 1958 to 1970; from 1970 to 1974, he was the principal of the Henri Agarande college in Kourou; in 1988, he was the principal of the general and technological school Gaston-Monnerville; in 2002, he was the academic mediator of National Education; from 1973 to 1998, general councilor of the canton of Kourou and deputy mayor of Kourou until 1995. He campaigned for the Guianese People's Union (UPG) which he founded.
