Focus sur L’Allobate fémoral

Il n’est pas rare en cette saison d’entendre l’Allobate fémoral chanter sur les sentiers de la réserve mais aussi ailleurs dans les forêts guyanaises. Ce chant caractéristique de l’espèce lui a d’ailleurs valu son nom Wayapi tiré de l’onomatopée « SimiSimi ».

Cette petite grenouille, très commune, est terrestre et diurne. Elle arbore une robe brune uniforme avec une fine bande blanche partant de la lèvre et ce, jusqu’à la tache jaune à la base de la cuisse. Son ventre est blanc taché de noir.

Les amphibiens mâles de la famille de l’Allobate fémoral, les Aromobatidés, proches cousins des Dendrobates, portent leurs têtards sur leur dos. L’Allobate fémoral dépose ensuite tous ses têtards dans une petite collection d’eau. Une fois métamorphosés, ils pourront alors sortir et découvrir la vie terrestre.

It is not uncommon in this season to hear the Femoral Allobat sing on the trails of the reserve but also elsewhere in the forests of French Guiana. This song characteristic of the species has earned it its name Wayapi from the onatopoeia "SimiSimi".

This very common little frog is terrestrial and diurnal. She wears a uniform brown dress with a thin white band from the lip to the yellow patch at the base of the thigh. Her belly is white with black spots.

The male amphibians of the femoral Allobate family, the Aromobatidae, close relatives of the Dendrobates, carry their tadpoles on their backs. The Femoral Allobate then deposits all of its tadpoles in a small collection of water. Once metamorphosed, they can then go out and discover earthly life.
