Focus sur le Manakin à gorge blanche

Le long du sentier botanique, peu après avoir croisé la première intersection qui marque la fin du parcours carbone, vous rencontrerez sur votre droite un morceau de tronc remarquable recouvert d’un fin tapis de mousse. C’est ici le lieu parfait pour rencontrer le Manakin à gorge blanche (Corapipo gutturalis). Ce petit passereau forestier est reconnaissable au blanc pure qu’il arbore sur la gorge et le poitrail et qui contraste fortement avec le noir profond qui colore le reste de son corps.

C’est en tout cas le cas du mâle. En effet, les mâles des manakins sont caractérisés par les assortiments de couleurs vives de leur plumage qu’ils mettent en avant à longueur de journée pour séduire les femelles dont les teintes sont généralement d’un discret verdâtre quel que soit l’espèce. Car si ils sont de jolis flambeurs, les manakins mâles sont loin d’être de bon père, ils ne pensent qu’à parader auprès des femelles pour leur laisser ensuite l’intégralité du travail parental, de la construction du nid à l’élevage des jeunes.

Along the botanical path, shortly after crossing the first intersection that marks the end of the carbon route, you will find on your right a remarkable piece of trunk covered with a fine carpet of moss. This is the perfect place to meet the White-throated Manakin (Corapipo gutturalis). This small forest passerine is recognizable by the pure white which it sports on the throat and chest and which contrasts sharply with the deep black which colors the rest of its body.

In any case, this is the case for the male. Indeed, the manakins' males are characterized by the assortments of bright colors of their plumage which they highlight all day long to seduce the females whose hues are generally a discreet greenish whatever the species. Because if they are pretty flamingos, the male manakins are far from being a good father, they think only of parading with the females to then leave them all the parental work, from the construction of the nest to the breeding young people.
